Getting ready for our trip and going to Stanford's Admit Weekend was a bad idea. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming, but we had to skip out of many events in order to get ready for the trip. We only slept 2 hours the night before our flight. We had to finish moving out of our place and wrap up a few logistical items.

1-2 hours into our flight, and after the requisite nap, we met our neighbor Amy. Amy is from China and studying law in San Francisco. She was a godsend for us. She helped us practice our Chinese and was kind enough to write a list of useful phrases in pinyin with English translations. (Thanks Amy, they have been very helpful!)

Flying to Beijing from San Francisco was cool because we got to fly over Alaska and Siberia. We've never seen such a great expanse of frozen wilderness.
